Say No to Salt: Salt-Free Heart Healthy Seasonings

Most of us know that too much salt in our daily diet can eventually become harmful to our

general health. Salt consists of chloride ions and sodium, and while sodium is essential for

proper body functioning – too much of it can be damaging.

With too much salt consumption in your diet you ma begin to retain more fluid; your blood pressure can rise, and this can make the heart and entire cardiovascular system work much harder than normal.

The Western diet is loaded with massive amounts of sodium and the more you sprinkle it over your food – the more you crave. The more it becomes an addiction. It’s not our fault that we enjoy the taste of salt. Our bodies and brains are designed to like the taste of salt as it is required for us to survive. Over the course of history, finding salt to survive was incredibly difficult, so the cravings became a natural survival mechanism.

Our bodies require less than 500 milligrams of sodium per day, but studies show that a large majority of people following a Western diet consume up to a shocking 3,4000 milligrams per day. If you exceed the suggested limit of 2,300 milligrams per day, you may find that your body will start turning against you and present you with all sorts of negative consequences.

Nowadays, keeping healthy on a regular basis and eating healthy foods has become even more important. This is where healthier, salt-free seasonings come into play. Cooking with salt-free, heart-healthy seasonings is a great idea. Don’t worry, dropping the salt and adding flavourful salt-free seasonings will still make your dishes tasty. Most likely even more!

The best thing about turning to salt-free seasonings is that your body will love you for it! Less salt means that you can build stronger bones, reduce bloating, curb cravings, reduce diabetes risk, prevent stroke, heart attack, heart disease and other chronic diseases. Salt-free seasonings consist of amazing, versatile spices, including coriander, cardamom, allspice, black pepper, cinnamon, cayenne, cumin, garlic and so much more. The options for a salt-free, healthier meal are endless!
